Summit School Committee
The Township Board of Commissioners established a committee to evaluate and make recommendations to the Board of Commissioners about the future of the Summit School building on Plush Mill Road in what is now known as “Gouley Park”. The site, which was purchased from the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District in 2016, was the home to a former elementary school. The building had fallen into disrepair and needed costly improvements. The committee was tasked with looking into all possible options for the building and the land immediately surrounding the structure (Note that the playing fields and majority of the grassy area at the site were set aside as conservation space). The committee held public meetings to obtain input from residents.
The Nether Providence Board of Commissioners authorized a Committee of 11 individuals (7 from the Wards, 2 Commissioners, 1 from Parks Commission and 1 from Planning Commission). The members of the Committee are as follows:
- Ward 1: Bob Kelly
- Ward 2: Dana Pickup
- Ward 3: Caity Kennedy
- Ward 4: Justin Henzel
- Ward 5: Jessica Mudrick
- Ward 6: Patricia Robinson Linder
- Ward 7: Marty Molloy
- Parks Commission: Steve Henry
- Planning Commission: Bob Linn
- Commissioner Kaitlin McKenzie (4th Ward)
- Commissioner Matt Garson (2nd Ward)
After several months of public meetings, the committee prepared a final presentation with recommendations for the site. The presentation can be found here: Summit School Final Presentation October 4, 2018.
