NETHER PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP GAINS ‘SILVER’ CERTIFICATION FROM BIRD TOWN PA FOR 2025
NETHER PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP GAINS ‘SILVER’ CERTIFICATION FROM BIRD TOWN PA FOR 2025
Nether Providence proudly became a certified Bird Town through Bird Town PA in 2022, marking a commitment to protecting and supporting our local bird populations. Since then, our dedicated Bird Town committee—often teaming up with neighboring Bird Towns like Swarthmore, Media, and Springfield—has been actively working to enhance our community’s bird-friendly initiatives.
From hosting engaging educational programs and guided bird walks to participating in community events and sharing insightful articles on social media and the township website, the committee has been spreading awareness about the importance of bird conservation. They also play a vital role in advocating for bird-friendly policies, encouraging actions such as native plant landscaping, responsible pesticide use, and habitat preservation.
Consequently, as a result of our annual report on the breadth of activities in 2024, Nether Providence Township has been recently certified as a ‘Silver’ Bird Town! The Bird Town PA website (Bird Town PA – Bird Towns) describes the certification levels in detail, highlighting the dedication and efforts required to achieve this recognition.
By fostering a deeper connection between residents and local wildlife, Nether Providence continues to soar as a haven for birds and bird lovers alike!
Bird Town Pennsylvania Certification Levels
We recognize that communities vary by financial and human capital. We have developed a tiered structure that allows communities to start small and work their way up to superstar. Bird Towns begin with Green Certification with minimal requirements and follow-up with Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, each with increasing expectations. They may do this at their own pace without time restrictions.
There are 6 strategy areas where Bird Town leaders are encouraged to focus their effort and attention:
- Municipal Actions
- School District Actions
- Community Engagement
- Habitat Enhancement
- Collaborations
- Advocacy
The designations are determined by the number of tasks accomplished for each level under the 6 different strategies:
- Green: All new Bird Towns start here
- Bronze: One tasks completed in 4 of the 6 strategies
- Silver : Two tasks completed in 5 of the 6 strategies
- Gold: Three tasks completed in all 6 strategies
