Smart Power

Nether Providence Township was an early achiever in the Smart Power campaign. Out of 20 communities in southeastern Pennsylvania to meet the campaign goals, Nether Providence was among the very first. Not only has the local government committed to buying 20% of their municipal energy from Green Options sources by 2010 but local volunteers also organized and signed up over 7% of the utility customers in the community to utility Green Options like Peco Wind.
As an award for creating such significant consumer demand for clean energy, the Campaign was awarded the township with a 1.26 kWh solar photovoltaic system that is placed on the Township Highway Garage. This highly efficient and very aesthetic Sunpower system can be easily expanded up to 3 kWh with the same inverter. Additionally, the roof space at the garage can accommodate an even greater amount of PV, and would be an ideal location within the community for a large solar energy system.
